Accessibility Statement

Guardian & Company Ltd (company no. 09198512, registered in England & Wales) is committed to making GuardianTV Live usable by as many people as possible, regardless of ability or the technology they use.

Standard

We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA. That standard covers perceivability, operability, understandability and robustness for people using screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, magnification, voice control and other assistive technology.

What we have implemented

• Keyboard navigation. Every interactive element is reachable and operable by keyboard, with a visible focus indicator that meets contrast requirements.
• Skip link. A "Skip to content" link appears on first tab press so keyboard users can bypass the navigation.
• Semantic structure. Landmarks, correctly ordered headings and native HTML controls throughout, so assistive technology can convey page structure accurately.
• Labels and alternatives. Form controls have associated labels; icons carry accessible names; decorative images are hidden from assistive technology.
• Colour contrast. Body text and interactive elements meet or exceed the 4.5:1 ratio, and colour is never the sole means of conveying information — status is always accompanied by text.
• Reduced motion. Animations and transitions are disabled automatically when your system requests reduced motion.
• Responsive and zoomable. The layout reflows to 320px width and supports 200% zoom without loss of content or horizontal scrolling.
• Native video controls. The player uses the browser's own video controls, which integrate with platform accessibility features and existing user habits.

Known limitations

We want to be straightforward about where we fall short:

• Captions and subtitles depend entirely on the broadcaster's stream. Where a source publishes them we pass them through; where it does not, we cannot add them.
• Channel logos are supplied by third parties and vary in contrast and clarity. Every logo is accompanied by the channel name as text.
• Third-party stream content is outside our control and may not meet accessibility standards.
• Long channel lists can be slow to traverse with a screen reader. Search and filtering are provided as a faster alternative.

Assistive technology tested

The site is developed and checked against recent versions of NVDA and JAWS on Windows, VoiceOver on macOS and iOS, TalkBack on Android, and keyboard-only navigation in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari.

Reporting a barrier

If any part of this site prevents you from doing something, please tell us — we treat accessibility reports as bugs, not suggestions.

We acknowledge reports within 2 business days and aim to resolve confirmed barriers within 10 business days.

Continuous improvement

Accessibility is checked as part of our development process rather than audited once a year. This statement is reviewed whenever the site changes materially.
