How to Watch IPTV on Windows and Mac (Browser, VLC & Apps)
The browser needs no install, VLC plays literally anything, and MyIPTV Player gives you a real channel grid.

Try the browser first
Open guardiantv.live/player in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. Pick a channel, or use the 'Paste playlist' tab to load your own M3U. Nothing to install.

Install VLC for anything the browser can't play
Download VLC from videolan.org. Use Media → Open File for a local .m3u, or Media → Open Network Stream to paste a URL. VLC handles MPEG-TS and RTMP, which browsers cannot.

Add a dedicated app for a channel grid
On Windows, install MyIPTV Player from the Microsoft Store for a proper EPG and channel grid. On Mac, IINA is a good modern alternative to VLC.

Configure the EPG
In MyIPTV Player, add your playlist under Settings → Playlist, then add your provider's XMLTV URL under EPG settings so programme data appears.
Desktop gives you the widest choice, because you're not limited by an app store. Three approaches, in increasing order of effort.
1. Browser — zero install
Open the web player in any modern browser. Works on Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS identically, and requires no admin rights — which matters on a work or school computer.
Plays the free-to-air catalogue and any M3U playlist you paste. The playlist is parsed locally and never uploaded.
Limitation: browsers can't play MPEG-TS or RTMP. For those, use VLC.
2. VLC — plays everything
VLC is the universal fallback and the best diagnostic tool available.
- Local .m3u file: Media → Open File
- M3U URL: Media → Open Network Stream, paste, Play
- Single stream URL: same dialogue
What VLC gives you is compatibility. What it doesn't give you is a television interface — no logos, no categories, no guide, just a flat list.
Its most valuable use: if a stream won't play in VLC, the stream is genuinely dead. That single test eliminates hours of pointless troubleshooting.
3. Dedicated desktop apps
Windows — MyIPTV Player (Microsoft Store, free). A real IPTV interface with a channel grid and EPG support. Add your playlist under Settings → Playlist and your XMLTV URL under EPG settings.
Mac — IINA (free, open source). Modern, native-feeling, handles M3U. Playlist management is more basic than VLC's but the player itself is far nicer.
Both — Kodi with the PVR IPTV Simple Client addon. Extremely powerful, unifies IPTV with your local media library, but genuinely fiddly to configure.
Casting to the TV
- Chromecast: cast the browser tab from Chrome. Simple, slightly lossy.
- AirPlay: from Safari on a Mac to an Apple TV.
- HDMI cable: unglamorous, and the best quality by a clear margin.
Troubleshooting
Stream plays in VLC but not the browser. The source blocks cross-origin requests or serves plain HTTP. Our player retries through a relay automatically — watch for the Relay badge.
Nothing plays anywhere. The playlist has expired. Open the M3U URL directly in a browser: text starting #EXTM3U means it works; an error page means it doesn't.
Choppy 4K. Check GPU acceleration is enabled in the browser or player, and close other tabs — a browser with forty tabs open has no headroom for 4K video decode.
